Singaporean couple spends $270k on their wedding!

Newspaper Article Wedding for $270k
Would you spend $270k on a wedding when you can buy a house with that sum? It’s insane! Just on the wedding décor, this Singapore couple according to Wanbao spent $100k and the wedding dinner for 500 people cost $125k. They have gone to great expense, and as the article writes, this amount of money can buy a place. It’s more than enough to pay for a 5-room flat.

The wedding dinner is $250 PAX, so if people had been accustomed to giving $100 angpows, they would have made a loss. They even spent $6000 on a plasma TV to showcase their wedding photos, hiring a band and for wedding photography. I thought this is a bright idea. They went to Australia to have their photoshoot. On that note, $6000 is quite worth it.

They spent $26000 on a wedding gown ($15000) from US, cheongsam, evening gowns and tuxedos. I guess their jobs as private bankers allow them to have such a lavish wedding.

Would you spend so much on your wedding if your combined salary is $20000 a month, not forgetting generous bonuses? For those of you who have already held your wedding, how many times of your monthly combined income did you spend on?

  1. I won’t spend a cent on wedding dinner. Not worth it. Wedding is just a beginning in married life. A grand dinner or wedding WILL NOT guarantee a successful & happiness life.

  2. What about a wedding dinner for at least the relatives? I think that is the very least minimum.

I didn’t invite any friends to my ROM, and they have been bugging me for the longest time.

  3. They too rich le ah? dun knw where to put the money? put in my pocket. :P

  4. wow.. $270k. tt’s a lot. but not spending a single cent…nt v nice ba. lol..

  5. Well… if you are rich, 270k is nothing. :P

  6. You’re right.

It depends on how much you earn really.
If $270k is but a year of their combined salary..
($20k a month combined with 5 months bonus..)

And they’ve been saving up for a few years.

I’ll say, do it with a bang!

  7. put it in perspective. Wanbao and their ilk likes to sensationalise their articles in the “tsk tsk tsk” jealousy-imbued gossip-mongering, hiding behind “chinese morality and ethics, of frugality, clean-living and rags-to-riches stories”.

what is different from this article?

because THIS couple CAN afford it! Does it look as though they are in debt after the wedding? Compare to $4k couples spending $40,000 on a wedding they can’t afford, esp when they had to borrow money to pay for the wedding. Who is finiancially prudent?

Can u imagine the field day it would have if the couple were not private bankers and were instead, say, teachers with combined salary of $8k a month?

Fwah. Teachers lei. Role-model still like tat. Tsk tsk tsk No money lei. Tsk tsk tsk.

Screw it. They happy, siong leow. Cheers to the $270k couple.

Good luck and successes in blogging!
