Debt Consolidation and IVA

Sometimes when people get into debt, they get trapped in a vicious cycle of borrowing more money to pay off the previous loans, and the interest rates simply killed them. Without adequate financial literacy, people do not know what options are available to them. On many occasions, people get into credit card debt and the interest are extremely high. If they happen to lose their jobs, or have other unexpected responsibilities, payment becomes a problem.

First of all, these people need to take stock of their finances. Do they have any other alternatives before getting an Individual Voluntary Arrangement? Different countries have different names for such help to those who owe banks too much money. This is a better alternative to bankruptcy. Getting an IVA will affect credit rating, but it is better than nothing. The creditors must agree to the debtor, who is on full employment, having an IVA. A monthly repayment sum would be worked out and according to the ratio of how much each creditor is owed, each creditor will get a fixed amount of sum each month. After 5 years, all the credit is considered wiped out, and creditors cannot chase for any more sums.

For those with smaller debts, they could consider having debt consolidation. Instead of worrying about missing one or two payments to a small company and hurt their credit ratings, they could consolidate all the debts and just pay to one creditor. Interest rates may be lower.

For people to reach this stage means they have seriously mismanaged their wealth. Some people may have unrealistic expectations on how much money they can spend and sometimes it just get out of control. However, there are ways to get help, so long they realize the importance of having financial literacy. They should get proper debt advice , instead of feeling frustrated over such issues.
