Discounts With Credit Cards

My father was going on a holiday with his friends and he found out that with a particular card, he could get $50 off. Since there were three of them, they could get $150. While $150 compared to the cost of the entire tour package was little, this could still be good money for enjoying a good meal. They did not have any cards with this bank, but I had a few. Hence, I offered to pay for them using my card, while I earn my points and they can pay less for their tours.

I like the idea of having multiple cards from different banks, because different banks offer different discount rates. I could have received a $40 discount on my shoes if I had a credit card with one of the three big banks in Singapore, but I somehow did not get to applying a card from this bank.

Out of curiosity, I decided to check the benefits of my old credit card, something which appealed to me when I enjoyed having fun and active nightlife many years ago. Instead of just one night dedicated to free entry to one of the clubs, they have allowed free entry every night with priority queuing. At the same time, they had more 1 for 1 promotion. With changes in lifestyles and habits, different cards with different benefits appeal to me now.

Hence, when you apply for credit cards, check out the benefits first before applying, because there is no point carrying so many cards from the same bank. You might as well apply for cards from all the banks in Singapore so that you can get promotions at many places. Some cards even offer payments for insurance premiums.

So, what do you do when the cards are due for renewal? Ssshh. Just call the bank up and say you want to cancel the card. You are too valuable a customer for them to lose you.
